Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form that incorporates martial art, dance, music, improvisation, and cultural history. It arose in Colonial-era Brazil as enslaved Africans and their descendants fought for freedom from oppression. This art form has spread throughout the world in the past 25 years as many people are drawn to the unique blend of movement, music, community, artistic expression, tradition and self-defense. It is intriguing to watch and even more fun to learn.
Classes will be open to all, though they will be most suited for adults and children 10 and older. Classes will be Saturdays and some Sundays, 11:00am-12:30pm in the Hartland Elementary School gym beginning June 2nd.
